sonder (n.) - the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own
Corn Productions presents SONDER, an original play by Sydney C. Luse and Laura C. Schmidt. Sonder takes a unique look at what it means to be a woman growing up in today’s world. The sweeping, episodic narrative follows a core group of seven women. In the first act, they struggle through the ups and downs of their twenties with heartbreak and love, tragedy and success, mental illness and personal growth; in the second act, we return to the roots of the same seven girls to watch them skip through their childhood years, facing joy and pain as they create and expand their world.
Written by Sydney C. Luse and Laura C. Schmidt, the play has previously been workshopped and performed in the Midwest in 2016 and 2018. Corn’s production marks the Chicago premiere of the show. Luse and Schmidt are directing, along with Dylan Connor, and they are also performing in the ensemble. The ensemble also features Gloria Alvarez, Francesca Bucci, Mikayla Contreras, Kat Delicath, Ryn Harter, Blake Hood, Madison Meeron, Lizzy Mosher, Mackenzie Williams, and Deana Velandra. Composer Taylor Burgess provides original music. SONDER provides a heartbreaking and hilarious reminder that everyone is the main character of their own story—but they’re also a side character or extra in everyone else’s stories.
